Titania Jordan is the CMO and Chief Parent Officer of internet safety company Bark Technologies. She’s just launched a new book, Parental Control: A Guide to Raising Balanced Kids in the Digital Era, and we connected with her to talk to her about it. This was a fun conversation with a mom IRL who also happens to be front & center with technology and youth.

Bark Technologies helps parents and schools keep 7 million children safer across social media, smartphones, texts and email. Titania is the former host of NBC Atlanta affiliate WXIA’s weekly TV show, Atlanta Tech Edge. She’s a renowned thought leader on digital parenting, a mom of a teenaged son, and she travels the country serving as a tech expert on shows such as TODAY Show, The Drew Barrymore Show, Steve Harvey, The Doctors, CBS This Morning, Good Morning America, Fox News, Sirius XM Radio and CNBC.

Check out her FB group, where parents come together for advice on raising kids in the digital age, share stories and learn the latest news about social media and video games. This group has over half a million members. Search for PARENTING IN A TECH WORLD.

On our episode with Titania, we talk about the #1 worst app your child should never be on, how to set limits and have repeated conversations about tech, what it’s for and how to use it responsibly and safely. We also talk about parental controls–how some games/apps have decent ones and some are a joke, but parents should know which is which and how to set them.

Titania recommended Childhood 2.0, a documentary on YouTube, to inform parents about what’s actually happening with kids and technology. It tells it like it is, from the kids’ point of view.
